Instant Moong Dal Halwa







Moong Dal Halwa is popular Rajasthani sweet dessert. It is made of with split yellow moong dal and specially made in winters. The authentic way to cook this halwa is with the paste of soaked yellow moong dal. It is quite time consuming and difficult to roast the paste of dal but the end results are really wonderful. But to make it easily, I, first roast the dal until crisp and brown then grind it little bit coarsely. Then cook the grinded coarse powder of moong dal in ghee and milk. The texture and taste of this halwa is same as made by authentic way. You can use milkmaid for more richness. Adding khoya is totally optional. This way of making moong dal halwa is take less time to cook and roasting the dal is quite simple.

You can roast the dal and make powder of it and store in a container for 7-8 days and make moong dal halwa instantly with this at anytime and impress your guests and family.

The details of all the ingredients and its method is as follow:


Ingredients:
Split Yellow Moong Dal - 250 gms
Ghee - 200 gms
Sugar - 180 gms
Milk - 250 ml
Khoya/ Mawa - 200 gms(optional)
Almonds - 2 tbsp (chopped)
Walnuts - 2 tbsp (chopped)
Cashew Nuts - 2tbsp (chopped)
Melon Seeds - 2 tbsp
Raisins - 2 tbsp
Desiccated Coconut - 2 tbsp
Cardamom Powder - 1 tsp


Method:
1. Wash the moong dal and soak it in water for 1-2 hours. Then drain all the water. After that take a non stick pan and put 2-3 tbsp of ghee and melt it. When it becomes hot then put the soaked dal into it and roast it until crisp and brown on medium flame. Keep stir it so that it will cook evenly.

2. Then put the roasted dal into the mixer jar for grinding it and make a slightly coarse powder.

3. Then put the remaining ghee into the pan and heat it. Then put moong dal powder into it and roast it on low flame. Roast the powdered dal until golden. Then sugar and milk into it and mix it well. Cook it until sugar melts and amalgamates into it and halwa absorbs all the milk. Continuously stir it.

4. Then add cardamom powder and crumbled khoya into it and mix it well. Stir it well for 3-4 minutes.

5. Lastly add chopped almonds, walnuts, cashew nuts, melon seeds, raisins and desiccated coconut into it and mix it well. Instant moong dal halwa is ready. Put it into the serving dish, garnish it with dry fruits and serve it hot.
