Naan



Naan is the Indian leavened bread which is made of with all purpose flour. Usually yeast is used for proving the dough but you can also prove the dough by baking soda and curd. Plain naan is very popular and served in every Indian food restaurants, dhabas, etc. Even it is an important part of the menu of every Indian wedding, party, etc.


It is served hot or should be wrapped well in foil as after being cool its very hard to eat as it turned rubbery. Traditionally it is made in Indian tandoor but you can cook it on cooktop by using cooker or tava or also bake it in oven. We all know that having naans regularly is not good for our health. To make it healthy you can use whole wheat flour and refined flour both in equal quantities.


While rolling out the plain naans, you can sprinkle some sesame seeds or onion seeds over it along with chopped coriander leaves. It will not only looks good but also tastes well.


Here is its full recipe:-


Ingredients:-
Refined Flour - 1 Cup
Curd - 2 tbsp
Fruit Salt - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Water - as required
Chopped Coriander leaves - 3-4 tsp
Ghee/ Butter


Method:-
1. Take a bowl. Put refined flour and curd in it and mix it well. Then sprinkle salt to taste, fruit salt and oil in it and mix it with hands. Add adequate water in it to knead a soft dough. Knead it well and cover it with the muslin cloth and keep it to rest for about an hour at hot place for proving.


2. Divide the dough in 3-4 parts and take one part of it and make a round or oval shape of it with the help of your hands or rolling pin. sprinkle the chopped coriander leaves over the naan and press it gently so that chopped leaves stick to the naan. Make all the naans in the same way.


3. Then cook all the naans in the tandoor. If you do not have tandoor you can also cook it on the tava or bake it in the oven @ 180 degree celsius. Apply butter or ghee on the whole naan and serve it hot with rajma/ dal makhani/ shahi paneer/ etc.
